Sonata Deluxe Breast Pump

This high-tech, double-electric breast pump is designed for moms who pump several times a day. Compact, lightweight and portable, the pump comes with a carrying bag and all the accessories you need to get started, including two sizes of PersonalFit Flex Breast Shields for more comfort and increased milk flow.

Like all Medela Pumps, the Sonata has 2-Phase Expression Technology and Overflow Protection (this prevents milk from entering the tubing and motor) with a one-touch letdown button. You get more milk in less time when double pumping when compared to single pumping. There are also two pumping rhythms to choose from.

Inspired by the Symphony,x the Sontata has powerful yet gentle suction and is designed to deliver consistent results in a more portable and affordable package.

Unlike the Pump in Style Advanced, which has manual controls, the Sonata has a touch screen display and digital controls. An adjustable timer helps you manage your pumping sessions. You can sync this machine with the MyMedela app, a resource for tracking your pumping sessions, charting your baby’s growth and accessing information on lactation.

Two features that really distinguish this pump are its quiet operation and rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This is Medela’s most quiet option—parents report that they can even join a conference call while pumping. Rechargeability means you can use it anywhere, whether or not you have access to a power outlet—this is a very big deal depending on where you pump. Moms love that when the Sonata is fully charged, it pumps as well as when it’s plugged in.

There are more parts for this machine than for the Pump in Style, so there’s more to carry, assemble, clean and replace (that said, the parts have fewer nooks and crannies, so they’re a bit easier to clean).

Another tip: if you pump at work or on the go, getting an extra set or two of pump parts will make your life much easier. (Note that, while you can use the same flanges and bottles as other Medela pumps, the rest of the parts are unique to the Sonata).
