Babies can come into the world with a preference for everything from bottles to swaddles (sometimes different from the ones you already picked out), or they might arrive a size too big or too small for the clothes and diapers hanging out in their closet.
Gift cards can give you the flexibility to buy things before or after baby arrives—whether it’s for putting the finishing touches on your nursery, panic-purchasing postpartum essentials or testing every single paci until you find the right one.
But here’s a tip: shopping for babies has changed a lot, even in just the last 10 years. So your loved ones might have no idea where parents are shopping for baby clothes and essentials these days. Rather than leave it up to guesswork, adding store-specific gift cards to your registry can mean getting flexible funds to the stores you’ll be excited to shop. These 10 are a great place to start.
Shop (Almost) Anywhere Gift Cards
Oh Baby eGift Card
The Oh Baby eGift Card from Zillions is another open-ended gift card option, but instead of shopping directly at stores or online, you exchange your “Zift” card balance for eGifts from, well, seemingly zillions of brands like Carters, Old Navy, Hanna Anderson and more. The most flexible option, a Visa gift card, lets you shop anywhere you could use a regular Visa debit card, in-person or online. And they don’t expire—if, for example, you happen to randomly find one in a baby shower card sometime around your baby’s fifth birthday (not that it’s happened to us!).
Tip: if you’re shopping online and your Visa gift card isn’t enough to cover the cost (and the site won’t let you split the purchase between two credit cards) here’s a bonus hack: buy a gift card to that store for the exact amount your Visa gift card is worth, and then you can typically apply both your store gift card and another form of payment to make up the difference. DoorDash Gift Card
You can’t beat the gift of not having to leave the house (especially in those early days if you’re recovering from birth. #PadiscleLife). DoorDash is best known for letting you get delivery from your favorite local restaurants, which can be a huge help during the sleepless newborn phase.
