Tripp Trapp High Chair
Overview
Description
This Chair made its debut in 1972 and has been going strong ever since (Stokke calls it a “chair for life” for a reason). Devotees love the iconic Scandinavian design that’s highly functional and looks great with your grown-up decor.
This versatile chair brings your baby right up to the table to join the family meal. The intelligent, adjustable design has both depth-and height-adjustable seat and footplates for ergonomic seating position at any age. The footplate effectively brings the floor up to your child, allowing for greater balance, comfort and freedom of movement.
Norwegian manufacturer Stokke makes the chairs from high-quality, solid European beech or oak wood with an attention to craftsmanship. The Tripp Trapp is a sturdy piece of furniture (it will hold up to 300 lbs) that would be very hard for a child to tip, even for toddlers who are climbing in and out of the chair on their own. Stokke sells accessories to make the chair comfy for smaller babies, and there’s no upper age limit on use: many kids continue to use the chair well into elementary school.
This chair comes with a Baby Set to provide support and stability for younger babies. The Baby Set attaches directly to the chair to create a higher back, and a rail for support and stability for babies as young as six months. It also has adjustable shoulder and side straps. To use the Tripp Trapp from birth, you can add a Newborn Set (sold separately) or buy the Tripp Trapp and the Newborn set as a bundle.
No tray is needed if you’re pulling this chair up to your dining table, but Stokke does sell a separate Tray if you’ll be using the Tripp Trapp without a table. Also check out Stokke’s Cushion and Baby Cushion for the Tripp Trapp.
Please note: Stokke’s latest model doesn’t come with an adjustable crotch strap on the Harness due to comfort and safety concerns (namely healthy spine development). Some parents found this to be a bit tricky, but the other four straps can still be adjusted for a great fit.

Customer reviews
Our twins love being up at the table with us during meals, playtime, and family moments. The newborn attachment keeps them comfortable and secure while allowing them to be part of the action. We also love knowing that these chairs will grow with them through every stage—simply adjusting for when they start sitting up, eating solids, and beyond!
As parents of four, we appreciate products that are high-quality, durable, and designed to last for years, and the Tripp Trapp checks all the boxes. Highly recommend for any parent looking for a chair that truly grows with their child!
First of all, not easy to put together or adjust the foot rest as they grow.
Second of all, does not seem comfortable.
Third and this is my biggest complaint thus far, the straps are designed so poorly it is nearly impossible to adjust the straps. Im talking I'm breaking out in a full on sweat, fighting for my lift to try to feed the strap through the plastic buckle. It shouldn't be that hard. I bought this thing, paid full price, and I honestly am this close to cutting the straps off and/or throwing the whole thing out the window. We got a hand me down high chair that we keep at my in laws, and I really regret buying this high chair and making it the primary high chair we use at home. I'm about to have a 2nd baby and he'll be using a different high chair. I'd rather put him in the $20 Ikea high chair, even that is a way better design. The complexity of this is just so unnecessary!!!
All seemed OK until I noticed today our child was able to pull the baby seat out of the seat plate. This is a significant safety hazard - the seat is supposed to clip into the seat plate and did for a while. However the plastic clip has now apparently worn out and does not lock into place. This part is not listed for sale under spare parts - but should be immediately replaced under warranty or voluntary recall program.
The seat cushion design with the back straps for the baby harness is absolutely terrible - hard to remove in order to clean and wash it. Could have been much simpler to clean more Velcro around the rear harness straps.
