Overview

Description

“Sometimes being a girl isn’t easy,” the story begins. “At some point, someone will probably tell you no, will tell you to be quiet and may even tell you your dreams are impossible.” What follows is an impressive roster of female heroines who persisted in the face of adversity, from familiar faces like Sally Ride and Oprah Winfrey to lesser-known stories about female luminaries whose stories deserve to be remembered, such as Virginia Apgar, Claudette Colvin and Clara Lemlich.

Meet female politicians, freedom fighters, athletes and the first Native American ballerina. Each story encourages little girls to join their ranks.

It’s inspiring and filled with great role models. It also uses rich language that all young children should be exposed to.
