This mattress isn't waterproof, but the cover is wet-resistant up to 16 hours.

The mattress cover is removable and you can totally buy additional covers.
The mattress isn't machine-washable, but the cover is. If you intend on machine washing the cover, first fully close the zipper to prevent the cover from being snagged or pulled by the machine. We highly recommend using an organic or mild detergent and using delicate cycles as well.
