The Hottest Baby Names of 2024
The Hottest Baby Names of 2024

As we’ve seen with the resurgence of Crocs, high-waisted “mom jeans” and [insert anything else that’s come back in style], trends come and go in a sort of cyclical pattern. And baby names are no exception! We pored over thousands (literally thousands) of baby names of actual Babylist babies born this year so far to see what the most popular names are, and also identified the trends behind the most popular names of 2024.

While some names consistently top the charts, certain baby names tend to go in and out of “style,” as you'll see on the list below. (We say style in quotes because no matter what’s currently trending, if you love a name, you love a name, so forget what everyone else thinks and go for it!) Names are also heavily influenced by pop culture—think celebrities (and what they name their babies), movies, social media influencers, and the last few years have been filled with inspiration.

If you’re on the hunt for the perfect name for your little babe, you’re in luck. Here are the hottest baby names of 2024, followed by some of the trends the biggest names fall into.

Vintage Yet Timeless Names

We’ll start with the biggest trend for 2024 baby names—parents love a classic, old-fashioned name. These names have a timeless appeal that’ll carry babe into adulthood. And many of them have consistently topped the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) baby names charts over the last 100 years, too. Among Babylist babies, the names Amelia, Benjamin, Charlotte, Jack and Olivia are the front runners for classic names, by a long shot. There are a few new ones in this category, including Clara, Grant and Louie. Here are the other timeless baby names that are topping the Babylist Babes name chart.

New Classics

A classic name is one that’s been used over and over again, over a long period, like the names in the preceding section. While these may not have been considered “classic” 50 years ago, they’re the names that are on track to replace the current classics in another 50 or so years. They’ve either topped the SSA’s charts for at least the last decade or two and consistently moved up in rank each year, plus they’re topping the lists of Babylist Babes week after week.

For boys, Luca replaced Lucas on our chart compared to last year. The two are so similar we wonder if parents are shifting away from Lucas in an effort to choose something a little less common, plus Luca is rising in popularity for baby girls. Other baby boy names like Aiden, Liam and Levi, which have been popular for the last few years, remained popular in 2024. And for girls, Sophia and Madelyn—with alternate spellings like Madeline and Madilynn—are persisting as top names for baby girls. Here are some of the other modern yet classic baby names at the top of our list.

  • Aiden

  • Cameron

  • Ella

  • Ethan

  • Levi

  • Liam

  • Luca

  • Madeline/Madelyn

  • Sophia

Earthy Vibes

Nature-inspired baby names top the chart and are a popular choice among parents who want something a bit more unique but not overly trendy. They’re often short and sweet (just a few letters and syllables) and also make great middle names. River, Flora and Hazel are three that parents are loving this year. Iris is also a new addition to our top 100.

  • Flora

  • Hazel

  • Iris

  • River

  • Lily

  • Luna

  • River

  • Willow

Gender-Neutral Names

Names that transcend gender continued to climb the charts. Avery was the most popular name in this category, with Noah (also spelled Noa) right behind it. James (mentioned above in the “timeless” section) is another that’s trending as a genderless pick for both first and middle names

  • Avery

  • Noah/Noa

  • Parker

“Short ‘n Sweet” Names

It seems that short names—four letters or less and no more than two syllables—are topping our chart. The name Kit got more popular this year, we’ve been hearing buzzing among baby name experts and influencers. (We’ll be keeping our eye on this one, we have a feeling it’ll break into the top 100.) Isla has been a popular baby name for quite a while and doesn’t appear to be declining anytime soon. Eva, Leni and Milo also made their way into the top 100 this year.

  • Eva

  • Isla

  • Jude

  • Kit

  • Kira

  • Leni

  • Maya

  • Mia

  • Milo

Pop Culture-Inspired Names

Names with strong pop-culture roots are also at the top of the Babylist Babes list. While Charlotte made a reappearance in Netflix’s Bridgerton series, Sex and the City introduced it to the collective consciousness. Penelope was also near the top of the list, potentially due to Bridgerton, too. Lennon is a new name topping our chart with its Beatles-inspired origins.

  • Charlotte

  • Lennon

  • Penelope

Names That Left The Top 100

Remember that thing about trends being cyclical? Here are some names that have dipped below the top 100 mark on our list this year. Margot had a boom after the premiere of Barbie last year, but it’s since moved down in rank. Lucas left the top 100, but Luca seems to have taken its place (it’s also been rising in popularity as a name for girls).

  • Ellie

  • Harper

  • Kai

  • Lucas

  • Margot

  • Miles

  • Owen

  • Reese

These are the names that are new to our top 100 list in 2024 compared to 2023. Miles moved out and Milo moved in; like in the case if Luca and Lucas, perhaps people are choosing a close alternative to try and get away from something too popular? Emilia is also giving the same vibes of parents playing with the spelling of Amelia.

  • Asher

  • Blair

  • Bodhi

  • Camila

  • Emilia

  • Harlow

  • Jasper

  • Laila

  • Lillian

  • Lucia

  • Lydia

  • Nolan

  • Piper

  • Sadie

  • Sienna

  • Sutton

  • Teagan

  • Vincent
