Little Sleepies Zippies Are the Only PJs My Baby Wears—Here’s Why

I wasn’t surprised when Babylist parents named Little Sleepies one of their favorite brands in our annual best baby products survey, as their one-piece Zippy pajamas have been a favorite in my home for over three years and two kids. Made from a super-soft Lunaluxe bamboo fabric, these PJs are easy to take on and off, last through multiple growth spurts and are gentle on sensitive newborn skin (like my eczema-prone son’s).

The Zippies have a loyal following outside of Babylist parents, too—with around half a million Little Sleepies VIPs in a dedicated Facebook group (including yours truly) for early access to new prints and sales, along with connection and support from other parents. Here’s why I recommend them to everyone I know—and snagged a 15% off coupon code for you to try them, BABYLIST15.

Why Trust Babylist?

Babylist is the expert in baby; we know baby gear inside and out. We talk with parents face-to-face in our showroom and on our user panels and hear from thousands annually via our Best Baby Products survey. We know what items millions of expecting parents are adding to their baby registries.

You may be surprised that anyone could be so passionate about baby pajamas, but I don’t think sleepwear is something to snooze on—especially for newborns. As a Babylist editor with a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy, I’ve tried tons of pajamas in both cotton and bamboo, new and hand-me-downs. Both of my kids also lived in one-piece jammies practically 24/7 for their first three months—we’d change them from their “night pajamas” to their “day pajamas”—because keeping them in a one-piece was easier than pulling down pants and unsnapping a bodysuit for every diaper change. I found myself gravitating to the bamboo PJs over cotton for their softness and breathability—from the colder winter months when heat would be running all night long and I wanted them to stay warm but not too warm, to the dog days of summer when they would be comfortable in the Zippies despite the AC running 24/7 or a bit of extra humidity.

Even now, I dress my kids in pretty basic bodysuits, joggers and leggings for daycare and weekends, but I don’t skimp out on bedtime. I find myself shopping for new ones from Little Sleepies again and again—not just because I love them, but because my daughter, now old enough to pick out her clothes, always reaches for them. (And trust me, I’ve learned the hard way about always having a backup pair on hand to avoid meltdowns).

It turns out that quite a few Babylist parents love Little Sleepies for babies and bigger kids, too, expressing disbelief in how they can be “soft and super stretchy without getting stretched out” and that they “literally fit forever.”

The Details: Little Sleepies Zippy One-Piece Pajamas

Little Sleepies was created by a mom of two who couldn’t find pajamas that wouldn’t irritate her newborn son’s eczema. And she really nailed it: Since their 2018 debut, they’ve become known for high-quality, super-comfy sleepwear that holds up (they’ve since expanded into bamboo daywear, too, which I want to try). And despite the number of brands that have hit the market in the last few years, none of the bamboo pajamas I’ve tried—from the pricier pairs to the mass-market dupes—have quite the same feel and stretchiness that Little Sleepies have—even after countless washes and frequent use from two kids.

The 3–6 month pair particularly seemed to comfortably fit for a long time. The photo above shows my 8.5-month-old daughter in that size with plenty of room to grow (with a bodysuit underneath since we were outside)—and she was over the 90th percentile in height and weight on the growth chart.

Why Parents Love Little Sleepies Zippies

When I was pregnant, I really looked forward to dressing my baby in cute outfits and pajamas. But once my daughter was born, I quickly learned that a stylish outfit isn’t always a practical one (hello, overalls, multi-piece sets and anything with snaps). But Little Sleepies makes adorable looks designed with thoughtful parent-friendly features from head to toe that don’t compromise on comfort or quality.

Here’s the full rundown on why my kids’ PJ drawers are stocked with Little Sleepies.

Newborn-friendly ‘fits

Although I dressed both of our kids in the Zippy from the get-go, the brand has plenty of options in the Little Sleepies Newborn Shop for your first photo op through the fourth trimester (and beyond). You can also have your baby sleep in the swaddle or infant gown made from the same Lunaluxe bamboo fabric, or the Crescent Zippy, which zips around the inner legs rather than down the torso (a good option for healing belly buttons). And both the infant gown and the Crescent Zippy have fold-over mittens (more on why those are helpful below).

Double-zippers

Since babies go through countless diapers a day—including multiple changes a night in the first few weeks—I consider pajamas without dual zipper access a dealbreaker. With a 2-way zip that opens and closes from the neck and ankle, you only have to undress baby from the foot to the waist for each blue-line check (the indicator on a diaper that it’s soiled) or actual diaper change. This type of zipper may seem like a small difference when we’re talking about a little body, but to me, it makes those is-it-late-night-or-early-morning diaper changes less of a chore since you don’t have to fully undress your little one.

Fold-over mittens and feet

Baby nails grow pretty quickly, and you’ll need to trim them every few days. But even with the most precise trimming, it’s easy for babies to scratch their faces unintentionally, especially if they have eczema or sensitive skin. Little Sleepies pajamas come with foldover mittens (up to size 12–18 months) to prevent scrapes and help keep their tiny hands warm. There are also foldover foot cuffs (in every size) to convert the Zippies from sleeper to romper (aka footless PJs), which comes in handy for lazy mornings when you want to keep baby in their jammies for a bit longer—err, all day—and they can have their feet free to help with tummy time. Sure, using socks or mittens is also an option, but I didn’t like how those have the potential to fall off during the night or get lost in the washing machine's abyss.

Lunaluxe bamboo fabric

The ultra-soft, stretchy fabric that Little Sleepies created not only fits my little ones like a glove but fits longer than literally any other clothing item they’ve ever worn. The hypoallergenic bamboo is also seasonless (and tag-free!), so it can be comfortably worn at any temperature. (Note: They make a short-sleeve/shorts version of the Zippy but I haven’t tried them.) Both kids have only worn the long-sleeve/pants style, and my older one has never complained about being too warm in the summer or too cold in the winter (For reference, I keep both of their rooms at 68–72℉ year-round).

Fun prints and family matching

I’d be remiss not to mention what initially catches people’s eye when it comes to Little Sleepies: the prints. They truly spark joy, making even the simple routine of getting baby dressed more delightful. They’re youthful without being too precious, they’re busy without being too loud, and there’s a design for everyone (they also come in a range of ribbed and traditional solids if that’s more your thing). And perhaps best of all, they’re available in sibling and family matching (plus coordinating nursery essentials like crib sheets, blankets, sleep bags and lovies).

I got my kids their first matching set for Hanukkah when my son was two weeks old, and did the same for the Festival of Lights this year, and for each of their birthdays. My daughter has really enjoyed this tradition we started, and loves nights when she can match with her baby brother.

The signature collection has a stacked lineup of whimsical prints like rainbows, sports themes, animals, food, mythical creatures and florals. But what makes the brand even more fun (and addictive) to collect are the frequent limited-edition drops with playful patterns, seasonal themes, holidays or special collabs, like with Disney, Pixar or Harry Potter. I’ve actually seen people comment in the Facebook group that they aren’t even pregnant yet but are buying limited-edition patterns for a future child just because they don’t want to miss out on a print. Now that’s dedication.

What Parents Are Saying About Little Sleepies

Parents have told us how much they love Little Sleepies in our survey responses this year and in years past (it’s one of the reasons they’re rated our best overall footie pajamas). Here are some of the top comments:

Are Little Sleepies Pajamas Worth It?

Let’s face it: you can get infant pajamas practically anywhere. And sure, Little Sleepies are a bit on the pricier side. But the fact that the one-pieces can last for months and months and the two-pieces can legitimately last for well over a year (and counting, in my daughter’s case, and many coworkers I spoke with) and are still in like-new shape to hand down to my next kid, it makes the cost-per-wear on these PJs pretty negligible.

With a buttery soft, seasonless fabric and parent-friendly features like a two-way zip and foldover hands and feet, the pajamas are one of the few baby clothing items I don’t mind paying a bit extra for (the other being jackets for my Northeast winters). So, if you’re looking for pairs that look cute, feel great and are easy for parents, Little Sleepies are a no-brainer. Choosing which prints to get? Now, that’s the hard part. Use code BABYLIST15 for 15% off full-price styles once you decide.
