The Best Baby Products Made From Natural Materials

Do you find yourself looking more closely at ingredients and material lists since becoming a parent? Having a baby can definitely make what we put in (and on) our bodies—and theirs—so much more important.

If you’re trying to reduce the amount of synthetic materials and chemicals in your home in favor of more natural ingredients, you’re in luck. According to our most recent survey of Babylist parents’ favorite baby gear, more and more parents are embracing natural materials, and so are baby brands. By using things like organic cotton and bamboo, sustainable wood, flower and fruit extracts, wool and natural rubber, these products help limit the amount of harsh (and sometimes harmful) chemicals your baby is exposed to.

So here are some of our favorite natural baby products on the market right now (and if you’re looking for more baby gear, check out our roundup of eco-friendly baby products and Montessori toys, too).

Diapering

The vast majority of diapering products (diapers, wipes, rash creams) are made with synthetic materials and ingredients, like plastic linings, dyes, bleach and fragrances. But these diapers and wipes are 100% cotton (the first diapers with zero plastic), and Earth Mama’s diaper rash cream uses all organic ingredients.

Feeding

When it comes to feeding and nursing products, whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding or doing solid foods, it can feel like plastic is everywhere. The debate of plastic bottles versus glass bottles is pretty prominent right now, but these feeding products use natural materials like glass, bamboo and natural rubber to prevent any harsh chemicals from leaching into your baby’s food.

Baby Gear

While plastic, metal and synthetic fabrics reign supreme in most bigger baby gear like strollers and car seats, these smaller gear pieces use only 100% cotton for their outer layers (but keep in mind that the filling in the lounger and rocker is polyester). The Charlie Crane rocker base is made of beechwood and birch with a water-based varnish.

Nursery

Much like with larger baby gear, it’s pretty common to find nursery furniture and decor that features plastic and synthetic fabrics. These picks below use only 100% natural materials like organic cotton, sheep’s wool and solid birch.

Baby Clothes

No polyester here! These clothing pieces are all made with 100% organic cotton, so they’re gentle on even the most sensitive baby skin.

Bath time & Cleaning

Aside from feeding, this is probably the most important area to keep an eye on ingredients. Chemicals found in cleaning products and household items are among the leading causes of poisoning in babies, and while it’s still important to keep these plant-based products out of reach of your little one, they’re not going to fill your home with harsh scents or highly poisonous chemicals. Instead, they use natural cleaning agents like citrus, floral extracts, animal bristles and absorbent organic cotton.
