Description

If you have a baby and a toddler, this stand-on tandem stroller could be a lifesaver. Joovy’s Ultralight Caboose provides a lightweight (the lightest on the market), compact ride. It may seem like just a few pounds here or there wouldn’t be a big deal, but when you’re pushing a loaded stroller up a hill or over a long distance, the extra weight (or lack thereof) really makes a difference.

Using the Ultralight Caboose, your younger child rides in the front seat (sitting facing forward or using the included infant car seat adapter; see below for compatible car seats), while your older child rides in the back, sitting facing backward or standing (a thrill of freedom). The rear bench slides back to create a seat, or forward to access the stand-on board. In the seated position, there’s a three-point harness to secure big sister or brother (note: it’s harder to contain super wiggly and willful little ones with this system). Unlike stroller board attachments, the integrated standing platform is extremely stable, and it leaves plenty of room for the person doing the pushing. Your child can hold on to padded bars at the side, and as they get taller, they’ll be able to lean back against the handlebar and organizer for added stability.

The Ultralight Caboose is rides smoothly and is easy to maneuver thanks to sealed-bearing wheels, four-wheel suspension and one-step linked brakes. It can navigate over varied terrain, and its compact size will get you through tight grocery store aisles, doorways and crowded areas.

The Joovy folds up much smaller than most double strollers, so you can stash it in the trunk, take it on the bus or get it through the X-ray machine at the airport (just take off the canopy and the car seat adapter). The squared-off canopy is quite tall and roomy and tilts forward or backward, with a rear extension that provides some coverage for the back seat. A neoprene organizer on the handle bar has two beverage holders and a zippered pocket, and there’s a very roomy cargo basket below. The stroller also comes with a child tray and a universal car seat adapter.

Parents love the Ultralight Caboose for everyday urban outings, shopping, travel and trips to the zoo or aquarium. With so many pros to this stroller, what are the cons? The child on the back can’t fall asleep easily on the stroller, for starters. Some kids love the thrill of the standing ride, while others will want the comfort of a standard stroller seat after a while. Also, with a rider in the back seat, you can’t easily access the storage basket. Finally, the front seat reclines, but at full recline or with the infant seat attached, the child in the rear won’t have much room.

Note that Joovy does sell an Ultralight Caboose rear seat attachment for children less than two and a half years old or who aren’t yet ready to stand. This adds a full-size, front-facing, reclining seat to the stroller.

Good for air travel?

It depends on the airport. Most will allow you to gate-check this stroller, but it'll still be best to check with the airports that you're arriving to and departing from.

Great all rounder!
I am delighted with the Caboose Ultralight Sit And Stand Tandem Double Stroller, which I purchased anticipating the arrival of our second child in a few months. Previously I had a great jogging stroller, but it was too bulky and heavy for travel and, of course, could only fit one child. The Joovy’s compact design and lightweight frame has good maneuverability and conveniently folds. My favourite part is the adjustable sun shade so you can keep the baby shaded regardless of the sun angle. The storage capacity is decent, enough room for essentials. The accessories (e.g. rain shield) are way cheaper than the heavily overpriced equivalents from bigger brand names. I highly recommend this stroller to families seeking convenience and for travel!

Great costumer service
The airline I used to travel to Europe lost the snack tray of my baby stroller and I couldn’t find it anywhere so I decided to email Joovy and they helped me right away and shipped to me to Europe! They were fast and great communicators.

Fantastic 2-child solution
This stroller has been our main mode of transportation for 7 months now. With over 1,000 miles of walking it has held up remarkably well. The only issue we've had was the basket wearing out, which joovy replaced under warranty with no hassle!

The stroller is obviously longer than an average single stroller, but it's still very maneuverable and the narrow width allows easy navigation through crowded and tight areas.

Great customer service
We recently used the stroller for travelling to Disneyland and it worked great for our 20 month old and 4 year old to sit on the back when she got tired. I like that it is compact and light and still able to fit both kids. We did gate check the stroller and when we got it back after our flight we found that the plastic canopy clip had been broken off on one side. I would suggest removing the canopy before air travel, since it it easy to unclip from the stroller. I thought I would have to buy a whole new canopy but I contacted customer service and they were able to find just the one canopy clip part that I needed, which greatly reduced the shipping cost.

Bad for baby without infant car seat
I regret buying this for my six month old and three year old. I got it because we use a convertible car seat, and it was one of the few double strollers that could handle a preschooler and infant without a car seat attached (but still not a newborn.) However, this is currently frustrating to use. The straps on the front seat are too wide set so they slip off my baby's shoulders. The waist straps loosen themselves. The foot rest looks like it should adjust to provide support for shorter legs, but it doesn't. If you recline the front seat at all, there's not enough room for an older kid to use the bench seat, and it's a tight fit even to stand. So basically the baby can't nap and is constantly on the edge of tumbling out if she's riding with her brother, and it's too big and awkward for me to want to stroll her solo. My preschooler loves the front seat, though, so I think this would be great for two older kids. The sun shade and organizer are both excellent.

Obsessed w/ this stroller is an understatement!
Love love love this double stroller! It’s lightweight, easy to store, smooth and a comfortable for my babies. My 6 week old rides in his car seat w/adapter and my 3 year old has the freedom to sit or stand, which he loves! This is the best double stroller that doesn’t feel like a double stroller!
