Not only are stockings the finishing touch when decorating for the holidays, they’re also sure to fill your home with a little extra holiday magic. Especially when kids wake up Christmas morning to find gifts from Santa carefully nestled inside. Stockings not only add a whimsical touch to your holiday decor—it turns out they also come in handy for gifting little bits and bobs that can be tricky to wrap.
Since there’s sort of a size restriction involved, picking the best gifts to fill your preschooler’s Christmas stocking requires a little more thought and creativity. More seasoned toddlers, if you will, kids this age are usually working on more advanced fine motor and cognitive skills and need toys that match their new abilities—think puzzles with trickier shapes and matching games to boost memory. They may also be busy learning letters and numbers in preparation for Kindergarten.
And because we’re parents ourselves, we’re pretty sure you don’t want a bunch of small toys with a short lifespan scattered around. Stocking stuffers can in fact be engaging, educational and long-lasting.
We’ve curated a list of our favorite stocking stuffers to keep your two- to five-year-old excited and occupied well past the holiday season.
