Video: The First-Ever Soothing Infant Car Seat with Lights and Sounds

Here’s something you might not know yet—not all babies love car rides. In fact, some babies really hate them. Which means parents are usually stuck between two options to combat car ride misery: let your baby cry and count the minutes until your destination, or opt for some less-than-safe soothing techniques like hanging toys from their car seat bar, which can cause injuries in the event of a collision.

Now, there's a third, more parent-friendly solution: the new Evenflo Revolve180 LiteMax NXT rotating car seat (part of the new Evenflo Shyft Intuiti+ travel system) uses SensorySoothe technology to calm backseat fussiness. It takes all the great things about a soothing toy, like lights and sounds, and puts them in a safe place right where your baby can see them: on the underside of their car seat handle.

How does the Revolve180 LiteMax NXT compare to other infant car seats?

Infant car seats are an essential if you plan on going on car rides with your baby, and they’re designed to be used from birth until about one year old. The Revolve LiteMax NXT grows with baby for up to 30 pounds and meets or exceeds all federal safety standards as well as federal side impact standards effective in June of 2025. In addition to federally required testing, it is structural integrity tested, rollover tested and temperature tested.

Here are some other things that make this infant car seat stand out compared to others out there:

  • Easy in and out with 180° rotation: Rotating car seats have grown in popularity, but you don’t always find the feature in an infant car seat. This one rotates to you (with one hand!) so you don’t have to bend over in the back seat to click the car seat in and out of the base. See that at the 2:21 mark in the video above.

  • Peace of mind with SensorSafe: SensorSafe is an added safety upgrade that connects your baby’s chest clip to the Evenflo app and sends alerts if their chest clip gets unbuckled, if the car reaches an unsafe temperature or if your baby has unintentionally been left in the car. It even tells you when it’s just time to take a break during a long car ride or stroll for baby’s safety. (2:50)

  • Soothing with SensorySoothe: This all-new technology was designed to help calm fussy babies in their car seat using full-spectrum LED lights and a range of soothing sounds that can be controlled from the car seat before you take off or right in the Evenflo app. (0:25)

How does SensorySoothe work?

Soothing a fussy baby can be hard to do when your eyes are on the road. To calm baby’s backseat cries, SensorySoothe is a new technology that takes all the things you love about lights and sounds (similar to what you might see in soothing machines) and puts them in a safe place where your baby can see them.

There are over 20 sound and song options, from baby-friendly ambient sounds like white noise and dryer sounds to classic melodies like “Itsy Bitsy Spider” or Brahm’s Lullaby. You can hear some of those at the 1:08 mark in our review.

For the light show, you can choose from a steady night light or one of the pre-programmed light effects. You can also sync the light and sound combo, so that the light on your baby’s car seat pulses in time to whatever soothing sound you’ve chosen. (1:23) Since there are so many different ways to combine light and sound, if you find that your baby is obsessed with one particular soothing formula, you can save that into their presets for easy access later.

To control it, there are three buttons on the side of the car seat bar. One controls the lights, another the sounds, and a third selects from preset combinations of both lights and sounds. (1:00) But if you need to activate SensorySoothe while you’re moving, you can use Siri and Google alerts to help turn it on hands-free. SensorySoothe can also be controlled via the Evenflo app if you have a copilot in the passenger seat.

Bonus: SensorySoothe is not just for car rides. It can also be used anywhere else you bring your car seat, whether you use it as an infant carrier for errands or on a walk as a part of the Shyft Intuiti+ travel system. (3:37

What is the Shyft Intuiti+ stroller and travel system?

You can get the Evenflo Revolve 180 LiteMax NXT with SensorySoothe on its own or as a travel system automatically bundled with the Shyfy Intuiti+ stroller. Getting it as a travel system means you can easily pop your car seat out of the car and onto the stroller and vice versa, without having to bother your baby by getting them out of their harness.

The Shyft Intuiti+ travel system comes with both the infant car seat and a stroller seat to give you two different ways to stroll with a newborn: with the car seat attached or in pramette mode (head to 3:28 to see how the toddler seat lays flat to mimic a bassinet). Both seats can be flipped around so that your baby can face you or the world, and they click right onto the stroller frame—no need for adapters. As your baby grows, the pramette transforms into a toddler seat (heads up: this can also be world-facing or parent-facing) that can hold up to 55 pounds, or about the average weight of a seven- or eight-year-old.

You do have to use both hands to fold the stroller, but it’s a straightforward fold that happens in seconds (4:34). And once it’s all compact, it stands up on its own, even with the toddler seat attached. Here are some extra details that make the Shyft Intuiti+ stroller a parent-friendly pick:

  • All-wheel suspension and rubber tires: Together, these give you smoother strolls and better shock absorption on uneven terrain. (4:03)

  • Adjustable handlebar: Got caregivers of different heights? Adjust the three-position handlebar for a comfier setup.

  • Easy-access storage: The undercarriage basket holds up to 10 pounds of storage and even has a little zippered pouch, so you don’t lose your phone or keys.

  • Cupholders: There’s a built-in snack tray and cup holder for your kiddo and a removable cup holder for you.

Who do we recommend the Shyft Intuiti+ travel system for?

Car seats are usually one of the only things required for taking your baby home. So you’ll know pretty quickly just how your baby feels about being in one. And whether they love car rides or end up fussing as soon as you buckle them in (or along the way) being able to soothe them hands free can be one less thing to worry about on the road.

With its never-before-seen soothing features, the Shyft Intuiti+ travel system would be considered a luxury setup, but Evenflo is known for affordability. Where other luxury travel systems can cost upwards of $1,000, the Shyft Intuti+ system comes in at around $700.

So even though you’re getting a car seat with lots of bells and whistles (including rotation, SensorySoothe, and a pretty sleek stroller), this combo falls right in the middle of the pack for travel system prices, which often don’t include those upgrades.

If you want the peace of mind of knowing that you have a tool to help calm them on the open road, plus the added bonus of rotation and backup safety features, this is the only travel system where you’ll find all three.
