Mobiles have long been a nursery-room staple. That’s because they entertain babies and often help them drift off to sleep.
Usually made with objects that dangle by a string, mobiles are typically hung over a crib or a diaper-changing table out of reach of your child. Some of the newer versions have more bells and whistles like moving in circles and playing music.
When it comes to selecting mobiles, note that newborns can’t distinguish subtle color differences until about three months old. But they can see light and dark color contrasts.
Also, just-born babies can only focus within six to 10 inches of their faces so being able to adjust the height of your mobile is helpful too. If you're attaching the mobile to a crib, you should remove it when your baby is about five months or able to reach it.
