The Baby and Family Products You Should Stock Up on During Sales Events

Sales are the perfect time to stock up on baby, family and home essentials you use on rotation. During big annual sales events like Amazon’s Prime Day, Black Friday and the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, you can usually find a discount on just about every product and brand on your to-buy list. As the Babylist sales and deals editor and writer of our weekly deals guide, I comb through every calendar sale event to find the best deals, and I can attest that those are the best times to stock up on the things you reach for day-to-day. And while you may be thinking of essentials that seem to run out as soon as you open a new box, like diapers and wipes, there are so many other items you can buy extra while they're discounted (and if you're interested in saving on a car seat, we have a breakdown on the best times of year to do that too).

To get your ideas flowing, we talked to parents at Babylist to find out what they stock up on the most during sales. From basics to ahh, I never thought of that; these are the items you can add a few of to your cart during the next sale.

Baby Essentials

Reaching for a fresh diaper to change a blowout or a wipe to clean up a mess only to find that there aren’t any left is akin to being in a horror movie. Stocking up on them when they're on sale can give you a healthy arsenal, so you’ll always have a box waiting in the wings. Aside from the obvious, parents on the Babylist team also mentioned stocking up on other regularly used items like baby lotion, soap, and diaper rash cream. Though these are lower-priced items, they’re usually on sale for up to 35 percent off during a big sales event like Black Friday.

Clothes, Shoes and Accessories

As a mom of two, specifically a tween and a toddler, I know firsthand how fast kids grow and that every season can feel like you need to purchase an entirely new wardrobe. With my shopping editor hat on, I also know that buying a season ahead when clothes are discounted (think shopping winter clearance sales for next winter) is the smartest way to chip away at the price of constantly buying clothes and shoes.

If you have school-aged kids, brands typically offer back-to-school discounts towards the end of the summer (and that’s a great time to pick up on basics like undies and transitional layer clothing). Also, items your baby will wear all year long and grow out of quickly, like pajamas, footies, socks, hats and onesie bodysuits, are great to stock up on (especially from rarely on-sale bamboo brands).

Food and Snacks

If you look closely, you’ll see snacks right at the top of a child’s food pyramid (I’m almost certain my own toddler is surviving on Little Bellies puffs and grapes). While they might not be at the top of your mind during Prime Day when you’re on the hunt for a discounted air fryer, bulk-sized snacks are often included in the sale items during both Prime Day and Black Friday. Stocking up on their favorite pantry snack during a sale will save you some cash and whining.

Toys

When I asked our team about the items they love to stock up on during sales, I was surprised (but also making a mental note) when a bunch of parents mentioned toys. Buying toys before you actually plan on giving them to your kid could be useful for a number of reasons: build up your potty training treat stash, have them on hand as a present for your kid or someone else's, have a rainy day toy that will entertain them for more than a couple of minutes—the list goes on. Plus, the hottest toys of the year (like Toniesbox) are almost always on sale during a big blowout. Amazon’s October Prime Day event kicks off the savings season for toys and giftable kids items (we saw a bunch of markdowns on top toys). And any toys that you missed during Prime Day will likely be back on sale during Black Friday and the weeks leading up to the holidays.

General Items

Aside from your parenting products, there are a bunch of general items you can double up on during a sale. From household items like bottle washer tablets and humidifier filters to things that make life easier, like stain remover and name labels for daycare, there are plenty of things you regularly use that are worth having an extra of.
