This popular convertible stroller now folds smaller and rides 24 different ways.

When you’re looking for a stroller that offers lots of riding options for growing families, it’s hard to beat the Baby Jogger City Select 2—especially at a price point that’s about half of what you’d pay for a comparable stroller with similar features. Now with 24 different riding modes, this longtime parent-favorite just got an update (the City Select 2 replaces the original City Select stroller) to make it lighter, more compact and even more versatile. Here’s what you can expect with the newest model.
What It Does
The City Select 2 is a convertible stroller, which means it grows with your family. You can use it from birth either by adding a car seat to make it a travel system or with the optional bassinet accessory. Then, if your family grows, an additional seat converts the City Select 2 from a single to a double stroller. Add a glider board, and you’ve got room for three.
The combination of car seat, bassinet, second seat and glider board means you can configure this stroller 24 different ways
But versatility isn’t all the City Select 2 has going for it. Baby Jogger is known for thoughtful functionality details, and this stroller is no exception:
- Car Seat Compatibility: You’ll be hard pressed to find an infant car seat brand you can’t use with the City Select 2 (including Britax, Chicco, Graco, Nuna, UPPAbaby and of course Baby Jogger’s own infant car seats) thanks to a wide range of available car seat adapters.
- Go-Anywhere Tires: Front-wheel suspension and all-terrain tires are designed to handle the uneven terrain and unexpected challenges of city sidewalks.
- Significant Storage: This stroller has a particularly large under storage area that can hold up to 15 lbs—so you can skip the basket on your next Target trip.
- Adjustable Handlebar: If you have family members of varying heights, the adjustable handlebar on this stroller may be a welcome detail.
Since the latest model is an update on the original City Select, Baby Jogger made a few adjustments to make the newer version a little more user-friendly:
- Lighter Frame: The City Select 2 weighs under 27 lbs, making it lighter than the original City Select stroller and easier to carry around.
- Extra Space, Smaller Fold: When compared to some of the more expensive single to double strollers, this one folds 20% smaller and offers more space between seats when the second seat is attached.*
- Eco Option: The City Select 2 is also available in a more eco-friendly version featuring a canopy and seat pad sourced from responsibly managed forests. This special fabric is also thermal regulating to keep your little one cool and comfortable.
It’s worth noting that even though this stroller is lighter than its predecessor, the added functionality of a stroller that grows with your family means you will be carrying around some extra weight (Baby Jogger’s City Mini 2, for example, weighs under 19 lbs…an 8 lbs difference). Also, despite the name, the Baby Jogger City Select 2 is not intended to be used as a jogging stroller.
Another thing to note is that accessories like the car seat adapters, second seats, glider board and infant bassinet are all sold separately. So keep that in mind as you’re pricing out your stroller options.
Why You’d Want That
Do you get to the airport three hours early just in case? Buy holiday gifts in September? Then you may like the plan-ahead peace-of-mind of knowing that you’re getting a stroller that will work with your family through all its stages (whether that ends up being one child or several). And unlike traditional side-by-side double strollers, this one won’t compromise your ability to get through a doorway.
Despite being one of the most versatile strollers on the market, the City Select 2 comes in at $499—about half the price of comparable luxury strollers that grow with your family. And unless you’re specifically looking for a stroller with all-wheel suspension (vs. the front-wheel suspension on the City Select 2), you may not even notice a significant difference between them.
So if you are planning on growing your family and want a stroller that can grow with it, the Baby Jogger City Select 2 might be the multi-functional ride you’re looking for.
