We asked Babylist parents via our annual best baby products survey what their favorite baby bathtub was, and the Angelcare Bath Support won by a mile. Though it’s not technically a tub, it has a lot going for it that some of the other baby bathtubs on the market don’t. A few parents even said it was the best baby product they registered for overall. And when a bathtub beats the big-ticket items we usually see parents raving about, we have to dig in.
Giving a freshly newborn baby a bath can be daunting, especially while you’re learning how to do it (and while trying to convince your baby that baths are, in fact, cozy and fun). So we’re here for any bathtime products that help make the task a bit easier.
Here’s why the Angel Care Bath support is a favorite among Babylist parents.
Why Trust Babylist?
Babylist is the expert in baby; we know baby gear inside and out. We talk with parents face-to-face in our showroom and on our user panels and hear from thousands annually via our Favorite Baby Products survey. We know what items millions of expecting parents are adding to their baby registries.
As Babylist’s assistant editor and a mom of two, I’ve given my babies what feels like a million baths. My partner and I waited until they were a few weeks old (to let all that good vernix soak into their fresh skin) to incorporate nightly baths into our bedtime routine, and the Angelcare is the support I preferred for both of my little ones. Having experienced the tub myself, I feel validated that so many other Babylist parents love this bath support, too!
The Details: Angelcare Baby Bath Support
First things first, this isn’t your traditional baby bathtub—it’s a bath support meant to be placed in your tub or kitchen sink. It’s a safe spot for baby to sit (always closely supervised!) while you bathe them. It’s made of durable BPA-free plastic with a soft-touch silicone-like mesh that makes up the actual seat part. There’s also a handy loop to hang it up in your bathroom to air dry and store it out of the way between uses.
Here are a few important features to note:
Bath support to be used in a bathtub (not a standalone tub)
Soft mesh material warms quickly to the temp of bath water
Anti-slip edge around the bottom keeps it in place
Dries quickly
Loop to hang up
Available in three colors: gray, pink or blue
Appropriate for newborns to six months
Baby should stop using once they’re able to sit unassisted
Why Parents Love the Angelcare Baby Bath Support
Of all the baby bathtub options on the market, almost 30% of Babylist parents who responded to our best baby products survey named the Angelcare their favorite baby tub.
Bathing a tiny, slippery baby can be overwhelming, especially when they don’t particularly enjoy bathtime. Many babies (and their parents) love this bath support because it allows them to be safely and comfortably immersed in warm water. And the soft-touch mesh also comes to the same temperature as the bath water, so there are multiple elements that help keep them warm. I found it helpful to make sure the tub or sink was filled enough so their bums were fully in the water and also put an extra washcloth soaked in bath water over their bellies and thighs to keep them warm and secure.
Since it’s a seat design, babies also get a good view of their surroundings, and their legs are free to kick and splash (get your towels ready). The non-slip material helps keep them in place so they don’t slide down to the edge of the seat (something I found tricky with other bathtubs we tried).
Here’s why this bath support is so loved:
Babies Love It
The first of many things Babylist parents love about the Angelcare Bath Support is that their babies do, too! Remember how I said newborns don’t particularly love taking baths at first? More often than not, parents find that their bath-averse babies tolerate this support seat. “Our baby [has loved] baths since birth and seems very comfortable in it,” one Babylist parent wrote in to our survey. Maybe because they find it so cozy or because they can feel the warm water on their back and bum, but I’ve experienced firsthand how content my own babies were when using it.
It’s Affordable
We’re all about saving money when it comes to baby gear, you know, the whole “babies don’t have to be expensive” thing. At just under $20, this bath support is one of the least expensive baby bathtubs. Other popular bathtubs—like the Skip Hop Moby tub, Fridababy tub, and Stokke Flexi Bath—cost between $40 and $80, though a significant upside is that babies can use them longer. But don’t let the price tag fool you; affordable doesn’t mean lacking in quality. A common theme among parents in regard to the Angelcare is that it’s worth every penny.
It’s Easy to Use and Clean
We noticed quite a few Babylist parents mention how easy it is to use in our survey responses—there is literally no setup required for this bath support. Also, while most bath products inevitably get gross after a while, parents love how easy it is to keep the Angelcare Bath Support clean. The same holes that allow the baby to be in the water allow you to simply rinse any soap and bubbles away. Most parents also mention giving it an occasional wipe down with a towel to keep it mold and grime-free.
It’s Lightweight & Easy to Store
At just under a pound and a half, we mean it when we say this thing is lightweight. The simple design features thin but sturdy BPA-free plastic around the sides and a silicone mesh material across the front; both barely add any weight to it. In fact, it might even float a bit until your baby’s placed in it. But don’t worry about it slipping around. The bottom edges are lined with a grippy material to keep it in place. And when bathtime is over, the loop on the top allows you to hang it somewhere in your bathroom, like the back of the door or in the shower on a suction hook so it’s out of your way.
It’s Durable
I received this as a baby shower gift after adding it to my Babylist registry (long before I joined the team) and have used the same one for both of my babies, who are just under two years apart. It's easy to maintain and the durability means you'll get a lot of use out of it. At 9 inches high, 13.8 inches wide, and 23 inches long, it also doesn’t take up much space if you want to stash it away until another sibling comes along.
What parents are saying about the Angelcare Bath Support
Parents have told us how much they love the Angelcare in our survey responses this year and in years past (it’s one of the reasons we regularly feature it in our round-up of best bathtubs).
Here are some of the highlights:
Is the Angelcare Bath Support worth it?
Choosing the best bathtub for your baby depends on many factors, including how your bathroom is set up and how much you want to spend. At $20, it’s easy on the wallet and definitely pays off if you save it for more babies down the line. Most baby bathtubs aren’t meant to be used past 6 months or whenever baby can sit up unassisted, including this bath support. But that’s usually the time parents transition their baby into the big tub anyway, so it didn’t seem like a dealbreaker for me.
